Personal.
There are very few things that look the same when you look at them from a distance as they do when you get up close and personal with them. People are the same way. You can look at them and sometimes even talk to them and not have any idea who they really are until you get to know them and their past and the values that make them who they are. It isn't a difficult thing to get to know someone for who they really are; it just takes time and a little bit of effort. Try and get up close and personal with someone and see the change that it can make.
